Margo Scott brings more than three decades of experience in the music and entertainment industries to her practice as a partner at McKoy Worob Averill Scott & Koenig LLP. Widely respected for her strategic guidance and business acumen, Ms. Scott has represented many of the industry’s most influential artists, executives and entertainment companies.
Ms. Scott started her career in entertainment at the boutique entertainment litigation firm of Gold, Farrell & Marks, where she was the lead associate on the groundbreaking $90 million action brought by Billy Joel against his ex-manager and others. From there, Ms. Scott joined the Law Department of Sony Entertainment where she spent seven months on secondment as the head of Business Affairs for Sony Classical. After Sony, Ms. Scott joined the fledgling Business & Legal Affairs department of Atlantic Records, where she rose through the ranks to become Senior Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs & Deputy General Counsel, managing complex matters for artists and entities such as Missy Elliott, Coldplay, and Maybach Music Group. While at Atlantic, she strategized with senior management to structure the first 360 arrangement and drafted Warner Music’s form recording agreement. In 2018, Ms. Scott was promoted within Warner Music to General Counsel of Elektra Music Group, where she lead the integration of the newly-acquired independent record label 300 Entertainment into the major label group, while guiding all business and legal decisions for a varied roster including Gunna, Young Thug, Megan Thee Stallion, Twenty One Pilots, Bailey Zimmerman and Brandi Carlile.
Since entering private practice in 2025, Ms. Scott has continued to build a dynamic roster of clients that includes multi-platinum artist Matchbox Twenty and independent record companies such as Artist House, ALTER Music, and Big Machine Rock. Her broad transactional experience, strategic perspective and deep industry connections make her a uniquely trusted and influential advisor throughout the entertainment business.
